This course leads to the attainment of BSB51918 Diploma of Leadership and Management upon successful completion. This qualification reflects the role of individuals who are engaged to manage the work of others or to add value to or review management practices. Their role may be in any industry or organisational setting.

Typically, people in these roles will have considerable experience in their respective industries or vocational areas and combine an informed perspective of specific work requirements with their managerial approaches. The qualification requires a sound theoretical knowledge base and managerial competencies to plan, carry out and evaluate own work or the work of a team. Job roles and titles vary across different industry sectors. A possible job title relevant to this qualification is Manager.

Assessments

A range of assessment methods will be used to assess required skills and knowledge for each unit of competency. These may include but not limited to may be case studies, projects, questioning and practical demonstration. Students are provided with specific assessment requirements at the beginning of each unit of competency along with submission/completion timeframe. As this is a competency based training, outcome of the student assessment will be deemed Competent (C) or Not Yet Competent (NYC).

RPL/Credit Transfer

Learners can apply for recognition of prior learning, and work experience towards this qualification. Learns would have developed a wide range of skills and knowledge throughout their life. Through work, volunteer roles, family commitments and various tasks undertaken in everyday life, learners are building up a bank of knowledge. The evidence of these skills and knowledge accumulated can be used to help learners gain a qualification. Learners can also apply for course credit if they have completed the same unit previously. To apply for RPL or credit transfer learners should indicate their preference in the enrolment form or speak to Training Helps staff during a pre-training interview or at the time of enrolment. Refer to RPL/Credit Transfer policy for details.

Things to consider

While this qualification may be accessed by direct entry, learners are required to demonstrate the following to ensure that they can satisfactory complete the course.

Pre-Training Review

All learners must undertake pre-training review prior to the enrolment or commencement of the course. The pre-training review consists of a questionnaire which aims to identify their training needs, previous education or training for experience, relevance of the courses to learners, basic computing skills. This review may also be conducted via an interview by a designated Training Help staff. An interview also aims to identify possible CT/RPL opportunities, confirm oral communication skills. Through pre-training review, student will demonstrate that they have necessary skills to successfully complete the course.

Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN)

Learners must have a proficient knowledge of written and spoken English to successfully participate in the training and compete the course assessment. All Learners are required to undertake a short Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) self-assessment prior to the commencement of training to ensure if you will need any additional support during the course.

Digital Literacy

Learners are expected to have a minimum computer skill to use a computer, a work processor and use the internet.

System Requirements

Learners are required to have the minimum required resources to be able to train online. Learners must have access to:

  • Tablet or Smartphone (Apple or Android) or
  • Computer with webcam & microphone (Laptop or Desktop)
  • A Reliable internet connection
  • A valid email account
  • A word processor such as Microsoft Office
  • PDF Reader such as Adobe Reader
  • Scanner or Smartphone with a camera to upload digital files for assessment. e.g. third party report
  • Printer.

Learners may access scanning and printing services at outlets such as Officeworks.

Duration & Structure

Course Duration

Students are expected to completed this course within 24 months. A personalised training plan will be developed in consultation with the student and their needs which will set out a training schedule and the duration.

To be awarded this qualification, competency must be demonstrated in 12 units of competency, consisting of 4 core units and 8 elective units.

Delivery

The course is delivered in a distant delivery mode for self-paced learning. It provides students with the flexibility to study and undertake assessment when it best suits them using the online learning resources available from the Learning Management System. Delivery includes face-to-face webinars, directed research and online learning and assessment materials and activities.

Students will be provided with detailed learners guide and learning materials to support the assessment activities. The learning materials will include learning assessments and other reference material available from trainer relevant to the unit of competence being delivered.
